The follow link is to a post that shows the application for this fuel is already highly useable and the potential for increased use is staggering.

Making motor vehicle fuel from algae uses carbon dioxide as a resource for 2/3 of its mass and growing it on land that is otherwise not useable for food crops, sequestering some additional greenhouse gases while we do it is genius. It is definitely a huge answer for our country and the world for climate change, food shortages and the use of impractical non-renewable sources like oil or unrealistic sources like corn, soy, palm oil, switch grass.... . The compromise of our national security by being dependent on foreign sources for our motor fuel would also be lessened.
Lastly the US's goods and services transportion industry runs on diesel which is now more expensive than biodiesel. Oh how that can be a win-win with almost 50% reductions in carbon emissions and particulate over conventional diesel. If it is biodiesel made from algae the carbon footprint reduction is more like 80%. Too bad American industry doesn't make an 80% reduction it's goal.
